Social Media helps nab burglar
Ocean PD request for help identifying suspect led to arrest
A social media post, asking the public’s help identifying a suspect wanted in connection with a burglary investigation has led to the arrest of a township resident, according to a news release by The Ocean Township Police Department.
Robert Gannon, 24, was charged Friday with burglary, theft and criminal mischief. Stolen jewelry was also recovered following his arrest, officials said.
From the news release:
On October 22, 2016 police officers responded to a Birch Avenue residence for a burglary. While canvassing the neighborhood, the officers discovered that a nearby resident had exterior surveillance cameras. The footage revealed a person of interest whose photo was posted on social media. With assistance from the public, we received an anonymous tip which led to his identity.
Detective Orbach and members of the Detective Bureau conducted an investigation and signed a criminal arrest warrant for Gannon. The investigation led detectives to an address in Eatontown where Gannon was taken into custody without incident.
Assisting in the investigation were Detectives Jesse Orbach, Greg Martone, Michael Melody and Dt. Sgt. Patrick Martin
Gannon was remanded to Monmouth County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
