The Asbury Park Music Foundation is in the running to bring back the 10-week summer live music series held in Springwood Avenue Park, organizers announced Tuesday.dancing-cop

Sponsored by the national Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, free music concerts were held on the west side drawing attendance from residents across the 1.4 square mile community and beyond; including our own dancing cop [at right].

“Last year was a groundbreaking year for the city, thanks to the Levitt Foundation and Interfaith Neighbors for helping us bring music back to the west side community after nearly five decades,” said Matthew Hockenjos, Executive Director of the Asbury Park Music Foundation.apmf-concert-series

Through the Foundation’s AMP [Your City] Grants, communities with up to 400,000 residents can vie for a $25,000 award. Through a public voting campaign, the top 15 communities are awarded the matching fund grants.

The Asbury Park Music Foundation [APMF] has submitted a proposal on behalf of the City of Asbury Park and voting is now open via http://levittamp.org.

“We hope that everyone will take a minute out of their day to vote,” said APMF President Tom Gilmour. “This is very important to our City carrying on its musical heritage.”

A successful campaign for the Foundation depends on community participation to get as many online votes as possible to bring the concert series to town, APMF organizers said in a written statement. Community support,apmf-concert-series-3 as measured by the number of online votes received, will be one of the key factors when the Levitt Foundation selects up to 15 winners.

Voting ends at 5 p.m. Nov. 21, Pacific Standard time. At that time, the top 25 finalists will move on to the Foundation’s review and selection. Winners will be announced Jan. 5.
