Sunday AM Armed Robbery Suspects Taken Into Custody
Teens turned themselves in; remanded to Monmouth County Jail
The two remaining suspects in the 3 a.m. Sunday armed robbery investigation have been taken into custody, according to a report from the Ocean Township Police Department.
The investigation was based on two 17-year-olds report of being robbed by gunpoint of sneakers and a cellular telephone by four men along the 1400 block of Maple Avenue.
Police traced the suspects to a Monmouth Road home in the Oakhurst section, where they found four males engaging in drug activity while a three- and four-year-old were present. Two of the suspects in the armed robbery investigation were apprehended and remanded to Monmouth County Jail.
During the investigation, Det. Sgt. Patrick Martin was injured when one of the dogs present attacked him inside the home. Martin was treated and released from an area hospital and Animal Control took temporary custody of the dogs, officials said. And, a 1998 Toyota Corolla, used in commission of the crime, was seized pending civil forfeiture proceedings.
Officials sought the public’s help in locating Marcus Blackmon and Lamont Reid [shown below], who have been arrested on outstanding warrants in connection to the robbery, according to a news release.
Marcus Blackmon, 19, of Ocean Township turned himself into the Middletown Township Police Department Wednesday and Lamont Reid Jr, 19, of Asbury Park, turned himself into Ocean Township detectives Thursday, officials said.
Blackmon and Reid were remanded to Monmouth County Jail in lieu of respective $100,000 cash only bail set by Superior Court Judge Perri and $200,000 cash only bail set by Superior Court Judge Kilgallen.
Police also charged the four men found at the Monmouth Road home as follows:
Edwin Rodriguez, 19, of Oakhurst was charged with robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon [a handgun], possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, child endangerment, obstruction and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.
Raquan Dean, 18, of Oakhurst was charged with robbery, child endangerment, obstruction and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.
Mark Santos, 19, of Oakhurst was charged with child endangerment, obstruction and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.
And, Paul Ashton Jr, 24, of Oakhurst was charged with child Endangerment, obstruction and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.
Santos and Ashton were released on summons, pending a future court date but Dean and Rodriguez were remanded to Monmouth County Jail in lieu of respective $230,000 and $130,000 bail set by Superior Court Judge Ronald Reisner.
The Ocean Township Police Criminal Investigation Bureau, Deal Police Department and the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Department K9 Unit assisted in the Sunday early morning investigation as well as Ocean PD officers Kevin Donohoe, Brendan Bernhard, detectives Jesse Orbach, Michael Melody, Raheem Carter and Dt. Sgt. Martin.
