An Asbury Park woman charged for the fatal stabbing of a 23-year-old city man on Saturday night had her first court appearance Monday before Monmouth County Superior Court Judge O’Brien Kilgallen, according to news release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
Jennie Cullum, 27, is charged with the first degree murder of Iquan Tyler, as well as the fourth degree unlawful possession of a weapon and third degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose charges.
From the news report:
On December 10 at 10:45 p.m., a vehicle approached an Asbury Park Police marked patrol vehicle parked near Springwood Avenue. The occupants of the vehicle told the officer that a person in the rear of the vehicle had been stabbed.
The officer approached the vehicle and observed a male bleeding with an apparent stab wound. The officer learned that the occupants of the vehicle were attempting to transport Tyler to Jersey Shore University Medical Center when they saw the police vehicle and decided to seek help.
The officer contacted the Asbury Park Fire Department’s First Aid Squad and they responded to the scene to transport Tyler to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Despite medical intervention, Tyler was pronounced deceased at 12:05 a.m.
A joint investigation by the Asbury Park Police Department and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that Tyler stepped outside his home at the Asbury Park Gardens apartment complex to pick up a food delivery when Cullum began to verbally assault him from her own apartment.
Cullum then came downstairs and continued to argue with the victim before he returned to his home. Shortly thereafter, Cullum knocked on Tyler’s door, asking for the victim to come out and into the hallway. After Tyler exited his apartment to speak with Cullum, she stabbed him, according to the report.
Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Leslie-Ann Justus set a cash only bail of $772,500.
