Kino Kimino March To Washington Ends At The Saint
Low Dough Showcase sets off 7:30 p.m. Monday at Main St venue
Brooklyn-based Kino Kimino will end their March to Washington tour Monday night at The Saint.
The whimsical punk trio with a deadpan delivery is the brainchild of Kim Talon, Lee Ranaldo and Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth [shown in feature photo]. Their debut record – Bait is For Sissies – was released in June via Wavves’ label Ghost Ramp Records.
For this stint, Talon will be joined by [at right] Tarra Thiessen on guitar [of Sharkmuffin, Ex-Girlfriends] and Jordyn Blakely on drums [of Stove, Jackal Onassis].
The four-stop March to Washington Tour kicked off Wednesday night at Brooklyn’s Footlight, and will continue with Planned Parenthood benefit shows in Philly [Friday night] and Washington DC [Saturday night] before stopping in Asbury Park Monday.
Talon said she immediately signed on days after the 2016 Presidential election to attend the March in DC.
“The upcoming inauguration still seems surreal to me,” she said via a written statement. “I can’t believe the rate at which our society is accelerating backwards. Every morning I pinch myself, struggling to get a hold of our new reality, and then ask myself, what actions can I take to slow this catastrophic landslide? As a woman, especially, our current political climate is heartbreaking. It’s impossible to fully grasp how we’ve come this far only to be on the brink of losing so much.”
The Monday night performance is part of The Saint’s Low Dough Showcase, offering a $5 admission. The Little Dickman Records & CoolDad Musicshow lineup also features Brooklyn’s Fruit & Flowers, the Lunch Ladies, and EVL Mommz. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are available at thesaintnj.com.
The Saint is located at 601 Main St.
