Prism opens Saturday at art629 Gallery on Cookman
Inspired Minds Fine Arts Students Featured In First Professional Show
Asbury Underground creator and art629 Gallery owner Pat Schiavino has announced a new venture that will support burgeoning talent.
With Prism – a group exhibit by Inspired Minds Fine Arts School students, Schiavino is not only putting a spotlight on new talent but giving these high school students their first professional gallery showing.
Held previously at the Lincroft based school, the senior class exhibit gives students the opportunity to produce the show in its entirety, school educator Brittany James said.
“We involve them in curating, wiring and hanging the work,” said James, who also administers private painting lessons and an open studio adult class at the Cookman Avenue Gallery. “It’s a real hands on learning experience; we had one student craft a press release, another made the poster [shown above right].”
The artists include Pooja Nayyar, Molly Mianulli, Jeanine Reeman, Hannah Lee, Emilie Weiner, and Kayla Clark.
Each student has chosen an identifying color from those separated into the light spectrum by a prism, Emilie Weiner wrote in her press release announcing the event. Hannah Lee created the flyer shown above right.
Opening on Saturday the students have put forth art that touches on an array of subject matters and mediums, including works in oil, pastel, watercolor, mixed media and photography.
Founded by Heather Brown Cadalzo and Rose Killmer, Inspired Minds administers adult and after school and weekend classes for children.
“Inspired Minds began in 2006 and has since been providing quality fine art instruction to children and adults, guided by local highly qualified artists,” Weiner wrote. “Many of it’s students have gone on to pursue higher education in the Arts, and many take their skills and apply it to some other aspect of their lives, even if purely to remain observant and to continue to feed their soul.”
An opening reception will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at art629, located at 629 Cookman Avenue. The artists [accompanied by their instructors] will be on hand to discuss their work. Their original art and prints will be for sale, and there will be no gallery fees attached to their proceeds.
Prism will remain on exhibit through February.
“Before we send off our students into the next chapter of their lives, it’s fantastic to celebrate their years of fine art study in such a creative and energetic town as Asbury Park,” Cadalzo said, “It’s always a bittersweet show, and I believe this community will enjoy it.”
