Editor, Asbury Park Sun,
We are still absorbing the historic outpouring of support, passion, commitment, and gratitude that the greater Asbury Park community brought to the Women’s March of Asbury Park on Saturday, January 21st. We are catching our breath, getting sleep, and making much needed trips to the grocery store.
We want to acknowledge everyone who made Saturday what it was. We were the spark, but the 6,000 people who participated by marching, volunteering, donating, and speaking, made our spark a great conflagration.
People are looking to us, asking what’s next. That’s a great question! We traveled so far and so fast in one week. We are asking ourselves: what’s the next best thing we can do that will build momentum and contribute to meaningful change?
The march was an entry point for many, ourselves included. We want to say to everyone who came, and those who didn’t but were inspired by what happened: don’t wait for us. If you are called to action, act. If you have a great idea, be sure you say it out loud. Let your inner leader out.
The Women’s March on Washington has put out 10 actions for the first 100 days of the new administration [www.womensmarch.com/100]. Sign up. They are incredibly well organized and you can, as we did, take your Ps and Qs from them.
But the most incredible, awe-inspiring, life-changing, transformative part about Saturday was this: Together, with 6000 people, the four of us realized that we have no ceiling – glass or otherwise.
We never did.
We woke up Sunday morning knowing we could do anything. We invite you to do the same. You will be hearing from us very soon.
