Asbury Park’s Move For Hunger is among 25 nonprofits across the nation vying in The Atlantic magazine’s Renewal Awards competition.

The Asbury Avenue based nonprofit, which works to end food hunger via a national network of relocation companies, was chosen among a pool of 500 nominees to compete for the $20,000 award.

“It’s an honor to be named as a finalist for this prestigious award,” founder Adam Lowy [at right] said. “We collected over 1.4 million pounds of food last year, and winning would provide us with the resources to top that in 2017.”

The Renewal Awards is a collaboration between The Atlantic and Allstate. The competition recognizes local groups driving positive change in their communities while advancing progress in the nation.

Now it’s up to the public to pick the best in five categories: Community Action, Neighborhood Revitalization,  Self-Starter, Allstate Youth Empowerment, and Ingenuity – Move For Hunger’s category.

The Renewal Awards is related to The Renewal Project, a social-first website and newsroom spotlighting people and organizations advancing social good and contributing to civic innovation across the nation.

Online voting began Jan. 26 and will through Feb 17 via TheAtlantic.com/Renewal-Awards.
