Robert Legere Design Center and Robert Legere Home on Cookman Avenue will reopen its doors for two consecutive weekends, starting Saturday.

“This is a court ordered liquidation sale that will present a wonderful opportunity for the thousands of customers who have shopped at Robert Legere Design for the last 15 years,” owner Steve Troy said in a written statement. “Everything in both Robert Legere Home store and the Robert Legere Design Center with the exception of kitchen displays, appliances and permanent fixtures, are for sale at 50-70% off.”

Troy and Robert Legere [shown above] were two of the early pioneers in the resurgence of downtown Asbury Park.

They first opened Robert Legere Home in 2002. A few years later, they expanded into an adjacent building and rehabilitated both structures. In 2008 they expanded again, completing their new contemporary building and opening Robert Legere Design Studios (shown above left).

The sudden closure of their businesses last month came via a notice on the doors stating “Robert Legere Companies is no longer in business and is permanently closed.”

Since the closure, there has been an outpouring of support, especially via social media where one Facebook poster wrote: “You are one of the best things that had happened to Asbury. It saddens me so much.”

Troy said the liquidation sales will run from 10 a.m to 6 pm. Saturday and Sunday, as well as during the same time frame on Feb. 4 and 5.
