Ocean Township Pair Arrested On Drug and Gun Charges
Motor vehicle stop for expired registration led to arrests
Two township residents were arrested Wednesday night on drug and gun charges following a motor vehicle stop for an expired registration, according to Ocean Township Police.
Jennifer McDermott, 48, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of a weapon, while passenger Jose Mendez, 28, was charged with possession of weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a handgun, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow point ammunition, possession of handcuffs, possession of marijuana, possession of a prescription legend drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a news release.
The pair were stopped near 11:38 p.m. on Raymere Avenue near Logan Road, police said.
During the motor vehicle stop Patrol Officer Dean Schoch II discovered McDermott was in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. A further investigation revealed that Mendez possessed a loaded handgun on his person.
McDermott was released, pending a future court hearing, and Mendez, who also had outstanding warrants, was transported to Monmouth County Jail, where he awaits a first appearance before a Superior Court Judge.
