Eight is Great At Parlor Gallery On Cookman Avenue
Opening Night Anniversary Exhibit and Celebration 7 p.m. Saturday
Parlor Gallery, a staple in Asbury Park’s downtown since 2009, celebrates its anniversary 7 p.m. Saturday with collective of works by artists from across the globe.
The ladies behind the gallery in the city’s arts bloc community said, “We are celebrating Parlor Gallery’s 8th Anniversary in the best way possible..with an art show.”
“We started this gallery with ideas, passion and not much more,” owners Jill Ricci and Jenn Hampton [at right] told the Sun affiliate triCity News.
Parlor Gallery’s esoteric programming has helped make Asbury Park an arts destination, often showcasing works only available in larger urban communities.
“We present a unique vision in New Jersey’s art community and feature innovative work by some of the best emerging and established artists,” they’ve said. “We curate exhibits the public may not ordinarily have access to outside of a large urban environment within a welcoming, creative, and inspirational space. We are so happy to be a part of this lovely city and hope to continue to grow with it.”
In the last few years, the women have begun to curate other venues, pop-up exhibits and participated in art fairs like SCOPE Miami and NYC. They curate exhibits for private and corporate collections and are behind the popular Wooden Walls offered each year by Madison Marquette on Asbury Park’s boardwalk.
The anniversary exhibit features Mister Xray, Pam Glew, Robert Melee, Ryan Cronin, David Williams, Percy Fortini Wright, Andrew Pawlan, Claudio Roncoli, David Wallace, Aaron Whisner, and BNS.
“From established to emerging, these artists represent works ranging from the bold, pop art mixed media collages of artist, BNS to the meticulously beaded, colorful found art sculptures by local artist, Andy Pawlan to the witty large format Rust-oleum paintings by Ryan Cronin,” the women said.
The opening night reception and celebration will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, with the exhibit running through March 26. Parlor Gallery is located at 717 Cookman Avenue. The hours of operation are noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Sunday, noon to 7 p.m. Thursday, noon to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and by appointment on Monday.
