Trinity Stations Of The Cross Art Exhibition Opens Saturday
Artists From Across The State A Part Of Inaugural Visual Arts Show
Trinity Episcopal Church is celebrating the Lenten season with an inaugural visual artists’ exhibit opening Saturday. Artists from across the state have submitted works representing the fourteen Stations of the Cross.
“We are honored that these artists chose to share their beautiful and intriguing art with us and the community during Lent.,” Rev. Michael Way said. “In the Christian tradition, on the day Jesus died, he walked through the streets of Jerusalem. The Stations of the Cross honor this difficult and contemplative two-thousand- year-old journey. As we each are on our own life journey, we welcome the public and people of all faith traditions, or no tradition, to join us in viewing these artists’ works.”
The artists represented in the show hail from varied backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences, organizers said. They include award-winning painters Christina Sanes and Pat Hutchinson, woodworker Buren Gilpin, and sea glass sculptor Nicole Vincenti.
The Trinity Stations of the Cross Art Exhibition will run through April 7. Guided half hour tours will be held 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, 6 p.m. Wednesdays, and on 11:15 a.m. Sundays.
Trinity Episcopal Church is located at 503 Asbury Avenue. For more information, e-mail office@trinitynj.com or call 732-775-3865.
Trinity is the city’s oldest parish and its late Gothic Revival structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The church is comprised of an all-inclusive congregation and hosts social justice initiatives.
Every year, more than 20,000 bags of food is distributed through their no-questions-asked Food Pantry, and 10,000 hot lunches are served via their Saturday Soup Kitchen. They also provide a free after-school choir program for close to 40 local youth.
