Update: Stella Bringing Blizzard Conditions

Snowstorm Parking, Shoveling, and Cancellations

Governor Chris Christie has declared a state of emergency ahead of winter storm Stella.

“This severe winter storm is expected to produce tonight through Tuesday afternoon significant snow accumulations, winds gusting up to 60 miles per hour, freezing temperatures, widespread coastal flooding and hazardous whiteout travel conditions,” Christie said. “During these threatening conditions, I urge all New Jerseyans to remain off the roads so our first responders and public safety officers can safely and efficiently handle emergency situations.”

The Asbury Park Police Department issued its winter weather advisory in preparation of the impending blizzard forecasters say will begin overnight and run through Tuesday evening. The worst of the storm is expected to hit between 4 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday, the alert advises.

According to Tri-State Storm Watch, snow accumulation for the area remains at 6 to 12 inches, with the lower amounts closer the ocean, with northeast wind gusts at up to 55 miles per hour.

City officials have canceled Tuesday’s garbage and recycling pickup, according to the the advisory.

Vehicles should be parked on the odd side of the street to allow for plowing. On Wednesday, park on the even-numbered side of the road. Alternate side parking rules do not apply in areas that are marked for no parking in snow emergency. 

Those who live in flood prone areas are warned to move vehicles to higher ground. This includes near the lake side of roads by Wesley, Sunset, or Deal lakes. 

The alert also advises residents to secure items on the outside of your home because high winds are expected.  

Sidewalks must be cleared 12 hours after the end of a snowfall. Officials advise residents that snow should not be shoveled into the street.

Tuesday night’s Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting has been canceled.

And, the TMES production of The Lion King Kids has been postponed to 6 p.m. March 29.

Alerts will also be available via Monmouth County: Twitter, and New Jersey Office of Emergency Management: Twitter.
Road conditions will be available at the New Jersey Department of Transportation website.
