Juice Basin Owners Host Peruvian H20 Benefit
Sunday Event in support of natural disaster victims in couple's native land
Regine Flimlin and Enrique Wegel [shown in feature photo], founders of juice basin Asbury Park, Montclair and Jersey City will host Peruvian H20 Benefit, a two hour yoga event Sunday in support of the natural disaster victims in their native Peru.
“We had tickets in hand and were expected to visit our native Peruvian family members on March 19th,” Flimlin said, “But after El Nino hit and trucks toppled like toys, roads and bridges were decimated, and water supplies were cut off, our family strongly advised us against our visit.”

Intense rains led to overflowing rivers, mudslides and flooding throughout the South American nation. To date, 100,000 Peruvians have lost everything and 630,000 have serious damage to their homes, Flimlin said. The death toll, according to BBC News, is at 100.
“We are shocked by the lack of media coverage of this horrific situation,” Wegel said. “We have the worst Huaycos in 30 years receiving very little media attention, which could really help our people. [Huaycos are powerful avalanches of mud and stone that pour down from steep Andean hillsides, causing mass destruction.] My wife and I decided to sponsor an event to raise awareness and funds for this catastrophe, so we reached out to the yoga community, the Peruvian Consulate and our Asbury Park hospitality and entertainment neighbors.”
The result is an organizational collaboration between the local community, the larger Jersey Shore wellness community, and Robert Hutchins, Deputy Consul General of the Peruvian Consulate.
In a written statement to the couple Hutchins said, “Thank you for your generosity in helping the victims of this natural disaster in Peru. Ms. Veronica Meza, Consular Officer, will attend the Peru H20 Benefit on behalf of the Consulate General of Peru.”
The couple say they hope to not only raise funds in support of the storm victims but to also create further awareness of how individual consumerism affects the scarcity of water in impoverished communities globally.
The Peruvian H20 Benefit will kick off with a two your yoga session featuring 12 VIP instructors from across the Jersey Shore area. The 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday event will be held at the House of Independents, located at 572 Cookman Avenue.
It will be immediately followed by 5 to 7 p.m. after parties at Asbury Festhalle & Biergarten, located at 527 Lake Avenue and at Ohana Rising Yoga, located at 66 S. Main St in Ocean Grove.
Proceeds from the suggested $15 donation will be dispersed by the Peruvian Consulate, the couple said.
