Asbury Park Little League

Lil Bow Wow’s ‘Throw Me The ball And Watch What I Do With It’ is the motto behind the Asbury Park Little League players who will be opening their season Saturday at their field behind the Asbury Park High School on Sunset Avenue. Led by League President Daniel McKee, games kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday and an Easter Egg Hunt will immediately follow the 1 p.m. opening season ceremony. For more information, click here.

The Asbury Hunt

The Asbury will host a family friendly Easter Egg Hunt 1 p.m. Sunday. Located at 210 Fifth Avenue, the event is open to kids 12 and under. Organizers ask families to BYOB – bring your own basket. For more information, click here.

Spring Break Family Fun Day

The Asbury Park Recreation Department, in conjunction with the Boys and Girls Club of Monmouth County will host an afternoon of fun to wrap up spring break. Entitled a Spring Break Family Fun Day, the event features everything from music, games and karaoke to  kickball, story time, and sack races from noon to 4 p.m. Monday at Springwood Avenue Park. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and organizers suggest participants bring a lawn chair.  For more  information, click here.

Girl Empowerment takes hold at the West Side Community Center

My Sistas is hosting a 12-week program for girls ages 4 to 18 at the West Side Community Center, located at 115 DeWitt Avenue. Held from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm Wednesdays through  May 10, the afterschool program is aimed at providing girls a space to freely express themselves while learning the values behind a healthy relationships, and how to foster self esteem and confidence. Story Time at Words

Girls of all ages are welcome at the weekly Words! bookstore Children’s Story Time. Held from 11:30 am to noon Thursdays at the 623 Cookman Avenue, the early afternoon gathering features readings, games and song for those five and under. For more information, click here.

Mayor’s Rodeo Accepting Donations

While Mayor John Moor has opted out of a 2017 Mayor’s Rodeo for Recreation event, donation are still pouring in to support the city’s Summer Recreation programs, held in conjunction with the Asbury Park School District. Thanks was given this week to NJ Natural Gas; Rob and Anita Weiner; McManimon, Scotland, & Baumann; the law office of Steve Glickman; The Asbury; Serpico Pyrotechnics; Blatner; T&M Associates; Otterstedt Insurance Agency; OnSite Engineering; and Nancy and Benjamin Fasano for their donations. Moor has said that his goal to ensure no child is turned away from the program due to financial limitations. The successful response to last year’s event prompted him to take the year off so organizers can help benefit other organizations in need, he’s said. Last year’s event raised an unprecedented $50,000 in support of scholarships for city youth.
