A man was arrested and charged with burglary this week after he allegedly removed an officer’s belongings from a police car at 7-Eleven.

Michael Thomas McGuirl, 30, of Colonia, allegedly removed the officer’s material from his car while it was parked at the Main Street convenient story during the midnight shift on Aug. 11, Asbury Park Police Captain Anthony Salerno said this week. McGuirl was arrested at police headquarters a few hours later.

The stolen item was not a weapon and was not city property, Salerno said.

“It ended the way we were hoping it would end — with an arrest,” Salerno said. “It just goes to show you that anybody can be a victim at any time.”
