School District Hosts Town Hall Meeting At Thurgood Marshall Elementary
Forum to inform parents with students outside school system of strides made in the past two years
The Asbury Park School district set out on a mission to build a brighter a future for its students two years ago.
Today, the school district is hosting a 6 p.m. Town Hall meeting at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School, located at 600 Monroe Avenue.
A flier sent to homes across the 1.4 square mile community, advertises the “Re-chartering Our Path” forum.
Who should attend:
Parents considering enrolling their child in a school outside of the district.
Parents of children enrolled in a school outside of the district.
And, anyone interested in hearing about the unique programs available in the district.
The meeting is being held to inform parents of the strides the district has made, which includes improved literacy rates and state PARCC assessment test scores.
Those strides include a rebooted comprehensive preschool curriculum and summer ramp up; bilingual/ESL, technology-based 21st Century Learning and STEAM programs at the elementary school level; and its Dream Scholars, Global Ghana partnership, makerspace student lounge and increased athletic programs at the middle school level.
At the high school level, qualifying students can participate in Dream Academy program that offers a Brookdale Community College associate’s degree at the time of high school graduation.
The district also launched a Law Enforcement, Engineering, and an Allied Health Academy vocational programs. Its College And Career Readiness Institute not only helps students focus learning on their career of choice but also works with area businesses to provide paid summer internships. And earlier this spring, the district hosted a job fair to help students obtain summer employment.

The free town hall event will include light refreshments.
