Michael Allman, the son of the iconic Allman Brothers founder Gregg Allman, has said “I’m a singer and a gypsy who needs to fly another way,” quoting lyrics from his 2009 release It Ain’t Me.

But in fact, Allman and many of his siblings have chosen to follow in their famed father’s footsteps. His brother Devon Allman co-founded the blues-rock band Royal Southern Brotherhood with R&B legend Cyril Neville, and Elijah Blue Allman founded metal band Deadsy back in 1995.

Born and raised in Daytona Beach, Allman is the eldest of the five siblings. His musical career path was thwarted for a number of years but the 2010 Hard Labor Creek is as definitive as it gets.

Allman’s style is distinctively that of a roots/blues rocker and the visual and vocal semblances are sealed by the familial cadence.

Gregg Allman died May. 27.

On Thursday, Michael Allman and his band will headline at the Wonder Bar, located at 1213 Ocean Ave. It is billed as a night of Allman Brothers classics and plenty of southern rock favorites. Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets are $15 via wonderbarasburypark.com.
