Asbury Park Music Foundation Announces Summer Lineup
Volunteers sought for free concerts being held throughout city
The Sounds of Summer are back and Asbury Park Music Foundation has a lineup of free music events that is sure to fit anyone’s bill.
Known for their youth music education programs, the roster features a mix of local, regional and national touring artists aimed at bringing the city’s entire community together in various locations, organizers said. They include the jazz sounds of the Asbury Park Concert Band, now in its 72nd year, to the modern sounds of local favorites and emerging APMF youth musicians.
Volunteers are being sought to help with not only fundraising endeavors for the summer lineup but to help staff the regular Monday, Wednesday and Thursday events, as well as some scheduled special events, APMF President Tom Gilmour said.
This month, APMF launched Live at the Music Foundation, currently underway at their new headquarters inside the Lakehouse building at 621 Lake Avenue. Since June’s start there’s been shows held in collaboration with CoolDad music and featuring special guests like Corrina Corrina.

7 p.m. June 17: YJY Record Release & Final Show, w/guests Nghtcrwlrs, Julian Fulton and the Zombie Gospel, and Avery and the Man Devils. Info

The free weekly Springwood Avenue Park shows kick off at 6 p.m. June 26 with Gary U.S. Bonds [shown in featured photo]. Running through Aug 29, the weekly roster was made possible through funding by Interfaith Neighbors and NJ Natural Gas. New this year will be a bicycle corral, held in conjunction with the Complete Streets Coalition, Gilmour said.

Now in its third season, the free Asbury Park Live Summer Concert Series will run from 7 to 10 p.m. June 28 to Aug 30 at the First Avenue Green Space on the AP Boardwalk. Sponsorship came from Asbury Park Brewery, Ansell Grimm & Aaron, Pepsi, Crepe Shop, Pucker, Tony’s Sausage, Watermark, Lakehouse Music Academy, and MOGO Korean Fusion Tacos.
Further down the boardwalk, the free Thursday Asbury Park Concert Band Series [in its 72nd season] continues 7 p.m. throughout July and August on the AP Boardwalk next to McLoone’s. The band performs everything from marches, classical and jazz renditions to dixieland, opera, big band and Broadway hits.
Aside from hands on support during events, merchandise sales and raffles, which generate funds in support of the youth music programs, Gilmour said volunteers can add aid with creative services, web development and marketing.
