West Side Revitalization Meeting Planned For July 19
Choice Neighborhoods Transformation Plan Aims To Transform Southwest Quadrant
An update of the Asbury Park West Side Choice Neighborhoods Transformation Plan will be unveiled next month.
The plan, which aims to transform Lincoln Village and the southwest quadrant into a place of opportunity and economic growth, is funded by a $500,000 Housing and Urban Development [HUD] grant.
City and Housing Authority officials have been working with a team of stakeholders and residents to create a comprehensive vision. Collaboration began in September with a data gathering input meeting and was followed up in November by a needs assessment meeting and the launch of a town-wide survey. Working groups were formed to discuss housing, employment, education, youth, public safety, community health, and transportation and placemaking topics.
At 5:30 p.m. on July 19 a public meeting and working group convening session will be paired with the analysis of the surveys. Working Groups will help to translate the survey findings into meaningful and feasible actions by outlining goals and strategies for the final plan, organizers said. The meeting will be held at the Asbury Park Senior Center, located at 1201 Springwood Avenue.
“The plan will lay the groundwork for providing equitable housing for the city’s most vulnerable residents, designing amenity-rich pedestrian friendly blocks, and creating tailored supportive services that meet residents’ most pressing needs,” according to a written statement. “Revitalizing Lincoln Village and the West Side will not only increase opportunities for residents, but will also further establish Asbury Park as a vibrant commuter community within the New York Metropolitan Area.”
The key themes include: One Asbury, Community Growth, Tenure, Quality of Life, Affordability, Youth and Education, School Test Scores, Employment, Health and Wellness, Transportation and Mobility, Safety and Police, as well as Communication and Resident Amenities.
There is still time for members of the public to join the process. For more information, click here.
