Surf Taco Partners With Move For Hunger
Food Drive aims to fill Fulfill’s nonperishable food shelves
A month long food drive aims to help supply the non-perishable food item shelves at Fulfill, [formerly known as the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties].
The food drive is held in partnership with Surf Taco and Asbury Park’s Move For Hunger, Lowy’s Moving Service non profit organization that works to mobilize the national relocation industry to fight hunger and reduce food waste by collecting non perishables food from those moving to a new home. To date, Move For Hunger has collected more than 7.8 million pounds of food.
“Food banks face their greatest need during the summer, when classes end and children are no longer receiving free or reduced-cost meals at school,” Move For Hunger spokesman Dan Beam said in a written statement. “More e than 114,000 people, including 1 in 7 children, in Monmouth and Ocean Counties face hunger each day.”
Beam said Surf Taco will collect food items at all 9 of their locations throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties through July 31. Surf Taco has branches in Belmar, Jackson, Lacey, Long Beach Island, Long Branch, Manasquan, Point Pleasant, Red Bank, and Silverton.
Items in need include: peanut butter, tuna fish, canned fruits/vegetables, pasta, rice, beans, and cereal, to help support the effort.
Lowy’s Moving Service will pick up the donations from each location and deliver them to Fulfill, Beam said.
