Officials Investigate Anonymous Oil Leak Tip
NJDEP Contains Spillage Into Deal Lake As Sewer Line Probe Continues
City officials have reported there was both an oil and sewer leak discovered in Deal Lake along the railroad bridge near the Main Street boat ramp.
Onsite crew confirmed Friday that they were investigating an anonymous tip while checking sewer lines just off Memorial Drive on Second Avenue.
A Department Of Public Works employee also confirmed that Hazmat, and the State’s Department of Environmental Protection [DEP] and Department of Transportation [DOT] workers were investigating lines just off Memorial Drive on Asbury, Second, and Third avenues.
DEP could not be reached at time of press for comment.
“There are multiple spots apparently where the sewage is seeping through,” said Jeannie Toher, a city Deal Lake Commission representative.
While specific information was not immediately available with regard to cause of the oil leak or its origin, the DEP has placed containment booms at the area of contact.
A private contractor was brought in to help Monmouth County with the sewer line investigations, city officials said. The state agencies will return next week to continue their investigation and cleanup efforts.
