DWI Checkpoint Yields Marijuana Arrests
Two Arrested Saturday Night During County Led Initiative
Allenhurst Police Department reports that two people were charged with drug offences during the the Monmouth County DWI Task Force checkpoint held along Main Street.
Working in conjunction with the local police department, officers pulled northbound vehicles onto a side street to determine the sobriety of the drivers during the four hour long detail, Allenhurst Police Captain Michael Schneider said.
Travis Lillie, 18, of Ocean Township was observed attempting to hide an object as he approached the checkpoint, was charged on a criminal complaint for possession of plastic bag believed to contain marijuana. He was also charged with a motor vehicle violation.
Andrew Gelber, 34, of Brooklyn was arrested less than 15 minutes later when when officer detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, as he drove past the checkpoint, Schneider said.
“One of the vehicle’s passengers admitted he was in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia,” Schneider said. He was processed and released on two criminal complaints and a motor vehicle complaint.
The checkpoint also led to the arrest of two people for motor vehicle charges.
A 33-year old Allenhurst woman was charged after police found she was driving with a suspended driver’s license. The second, a 30-year old Neptune man, was found to be unlicensed with suspended driving privileges.
Both were processed and released on summonses, with a pending court date.
