Sprudge Spotlights Asbury Park’s High Voltage
European Vibes Meet Beach Life At Seafront Cafe
Sprudge, Portland’s publication on all things coffee, spotlighted Asbury Park’s own High Voltage Seafront Cafe in a feature by Jenn Hall released Thursday.
In the feature, co owner Sonia Jozajtis shares how her Polish background inspired the expanded offerings at the Asbury Park Boardwalk pop up turned permanent venue, now located in the First Avenue Pavilion next to the popular Cubacan and Stella Marina eateries.
“The common denominator here is an intentionality about the coffee, the food, and the experience, delivered in a space that feels like the living room of plugged-in friends who manage not to take themselves too seriously,” Hall writes. ““The food program at High Voltage continues Jozajtis’ international bent, with notes of Balkan, Euro, and other global elements.”
“You always remember the flavors from when you travel,” Jozajtis said.
So, she worked to create a sense of adventure with a menu heavy on healthy options that still read like an indulgence. On weekends, that includes seasonal pierogis and flatbread pizzas, a riff on Polish street food. The team also tapped neighbor-bakers Medusa Stone Fired Kitchen, who churn out killer wood-fired bread for open-faced sandwiches, along with traditional Polish pastries like rogal.
High Voltage launched in the summer of 2016. It is the brainchild of Jozjtis, her partner Jason Thomson, editor and creative director of Sun affiliate, the triCityNews, Allison Trautwein, and Mike Caliendo.
The team is expected to open a Main Street location by August’s end at Junction Hall, the collaborative venture by Cowerks and Second Life Bikes.
High Voltage Seafront Cafe is located at 800 Ocean Avenue. Their hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday, and 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
