Mary Macs Libation Station site plan was unanimously approved Monday by the Asbury Park Planning Board.

The new offering by Johnny Mac House of Spirits owner John McGillion is a part of a larger scale expansion of the Main Street business, located on Cookman Avenue between Cookman and Mattison avenues.

Mary Macs, located at the Mattison Avenue corner in the former Bistro Ole building, will be a multi-level bar and restaurant. The design showcases two bars, accessible via elevator and stairs, mezzanine seating, and gender neutral restrooms.

After board concerns were voiced, with regard to the initial proposed facade not maintaining the historic character of the district, project officials met with the Architectural Review Committee and returned with a new design.

“It’s an incredible difference from the prior plan,” board member Barbara Krzak said. “It’s very nice.”

It is everything everybody wanted,” Mayor John Moor said.  

Project architect Rob Adler said the previously proposed adjoining outdoor balcony and beer garden will be a part of a future application; until then the hall leading that access will be screened off, per board recommendation.

The approval was granted pending outside agency approvals, bike racks along Main Street and Mattison Avenue, signage requirements, and a parking contribution sparked by the 2,442 square foot increase for the basement located kitchen.
