City workers recently wrapped up a construction project in City Hall’s second floor.
The goal of the project was to separate code enforcement and construction office windows, city engineer Joe Cunha said. Both departments, along with planning and zoning, previously shared one window in the second floor’s northern side.
Officials hope this will streamline administrative matters, as visitors to the construction and code enforcement departments will now be able to form two lines instead of one.
“It was an organization thing,” Cunha said. “Now you have a clear distinction between construction and code enforcement.”
Officials also hope the change will reduce congestion in the hallway.
All of the construction was done in-house with city employees and the city engineer providing the labor, Cunha said. This helped the city to save approximately $10,000, he said. The total cost of the project was about $10,000.
Also, construction officials used surplus sheet rock and other materials that had been purchased for other projects in the last year, decreasing material costs.
“We saved it to utilize down the road,” Cunha said.
