Coming Up: Book Signing, Art On The Boardwalk, Farm To Table Event, & Night Bike Ride
Book Signing With Kay Harris
Local Author Kay Harris will join Deerest Minnie Author Leslie Compton for a book signing event 5 p.m. Friday at Barnes & Noble Book Store in Eatontown. Harris, who self published From Amistad to the White House: Teachable Moments From 1839 to Within My Lifetime, is the owner of Asbury Galleria on the Asbury Park Boardwalk.The self-published book brings the civil rights movement up-to-date with reflections on the election of the nation’s first black President and news stories that continue to frame the human rights struggle. It traces a journey from Birmingham and Memphis to ‘the nearly forgotten back roads’ of Money, Mississippi.
Asbury Park Art On The Boardwalk Returns
It’s a colorful addition to the sights, sounds and sensations of the famous Asbury Park boardwalk, organizer of the 12th Annual Asbury Park On The Boardwalk fundraising event said. Held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, the outdoor art fair is a ‘big tent’ showcase of original works from dozens of Jersey Shore based artists in various mediums, including everything from oil, acrylic, watercolor, and pastel paintings to photography and sculptures. The event, held in support of the Asbury Park Historical Society, will be held along the beach side of the boardwalk south of Convention Hall.
Kula Urban Farm and Kula Cafe will host a 4:30 to 7 p.m. Farm to Table Cocktail Party Sunday at the farm, located at 115 Atkins Ave. The evening will feature wine and farm fresh passed hors d’oeuvres amid the farms ambiance. Kula Cafe and Urban Farm are a part of Interfaith Neighbors sustainable community projects. The event is free and $35 donations will be accepted to cover event costs. To RSVP, click here.
Complete Streets Light Up
The Asbury Park Complete Street Coalition will host a Light Up The Night Bike Ride 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The event asks participants to decorate and light up their bikes for a community ride around the city. The ride launches from Springwood Avenue Park, located between Union and Atkins avenue.
