Wooden Walls Towel Project Opens Thursday
Opening Reception 7 p.m. Thursday at GIFT Gallery on AP Boardwalk
Artist and collaborators behind the popular Wooden Walls Mural Project along the Asbury Park Boardwalk have come together to offer the beach inspired art experience in a new way.
Entitled The Wooden Walls Towel Project, this new offering is a celebration of the murals, artists and the beach itself,” organizers said in a written statement.
Artwork by 13 muralists are represented in the 14 varying towel designs. They include: Dee Dee, Dylan Egon, Hellbent, Logan Hicks, Bradley Hoffer, Indie184, Joe Iurato, Michele Martello, Porkchop, Pau Quintanajornet, Mike Shine, Thiago Valdi, and James Vance.
The limited edition towels will be offered for sale, with 50 towels in each design being presented. The towels are 100% cotton, measure 30” x 60”, with a portion of the proceeds going directly to the artists.
An opening reception will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at GIFT, the new gallery/art workspace/ gift shop, located inside the Fourth Avenue Pavilion at 1100 Ocean Ave. Pre-orders of the towels will be accepted during the event.
GIFT opened this summer as a wink to museum shops, offering limited-edition t-shirts, wood blocks, and clocks by Wooden Wall mural artists. The collaborative art space also showcases works by emerging local, national, and international artists, curated by Jill Ricci and Jenn Hampton of Parlor Gallery; curators behind the Wooden Walls Project.
GIFT is a collaboration by boardwalk redeveloper Madison Marquette, Gene Mignola and Scott Hamm of Shelter Home/FunHouse, Parlor Gallery and the Wooden Walls Project itself. Its entrance is located on Ocean Avenue between Third and Fourth avenues.
The hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, by appointment Tuesday and Wednesday, noon to 7 p.m. Thursday, noon to 8 p.m. Friday, noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
