Man attempting to avoid open alcohol container summons arrested for drug possession
Charges include heroin, crack cocaine, marijuana, hollow point bullet and handgun possession
A summons for an open alcohol container in a motor vehicle led to the drug and handgun possession arrest of a man attempting to thwart the charges, Asbury Park Police Department spokesman Sgt. Michael Casey said.
The vehicle’s driver, Noemi Sanchez, 39, of Neptune City was arrested on an Eatontown warrant but passenger Tyshawn Downey, 36, of Neptune was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of hollow point ammunition, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of heroin, possession of crack cocaine, possession of marijuana under 50 grams, and hindering apprehension.
According to a written report, Special Officers Matthew Buttermark and Ariana Irrizary, assigned to the beachfront detail, entered the fisherman’s lot near 10:15 p.m. to conduct a check for illicit activity.
While writing the open alcohol container summons, a check returned an outstanding Eatontown warrant for Sanchez and in Allenhurst for her passenger, who identified himself as Shawn Jordan.
A search revealed Downey was in possession of crack cocaine, heroin and marijuana. He then informed officers he had placed a handgun under the passenger seat and didn’t want them to be surprised if they found it, Casey said.
It was during processing that Downey’s true identity was revealed after admitting to providing someone else’s identification in order to avoid the summons.
Sanchez was processed and released and Downey was remanded to Monmouth County Jail, pending a future court appearance.
