The Sun’s City Council Preview
2017 Budget, Wesley Lake Commission, Fourth Ave Pavilion, and Boys & Girls Club Parking On Agenda
The Asbury Park City Council is scheduled to meet Wednesday in Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 1 Municipal Plaza.
There will be a 5 p.m. closed executive session. The public meetings begin at 6 p.m. with a workshop session and is followed by the 7 p.m. Regular City Council Meeting.
Public participation takes place at the beginning of the regular meeting.
Items on the agenda include:
Executive Session discussions pertaining to Attorney-Client Privileges.
During the Workshop Session City Manager Michael Capabianco will address any matters raised at prior meetings and will give a review of the night’s agenda. Special Events Coordinator Leesha Floyd will give a review of applications for the Asbury Angels dedication, Women’s Weekend, Clean Ocean Action Sandy Paws, Bier Run, Toast Pancake Run, and the Asbury Park Santa Run.
The Regular Session meeting will include a vote on the proposed $44.5 million that will see the average homeowners annual tax bill increase by $91. There will be votes on other budgetary matters, including the purchase of three license plate readers at a cost of $71,000, and RCA awards for property maintenance.
Grant applications and award approvals include the 2017 Drunk Driving Enforcement, Dept. of Justice Public Safety, and NJDOT Memorial Drive Improvement appropriation.
And, Acting as the municipality’s redevelopment authority, the City Council will vote on Madison Marquette’s proposed Fourth Avenue Pavilion site plan.
New ordinance votes include changing the Wesley Lake Commission Deputy Mayor or designee member to an elected official of the governing body, and changing one appointed member to two, thereby doing away with the alternate member appointee.
There will also be an introduction to change the use of property owned by Boys & Girls Club of Monmouth County on Monroe Avenue to accommodate accessory parking for its property located across the street.
The public will have the opportunity to ask question and make comments prior to the final vote to use $42,400 of capital surplus to purchase a Police Department speed trailer, tools for Department of Public Works staff, and tools and equipment for the Fire Department.
