Stand Against Hate Organizers Plan Love Trumps Hate Event
The March For Each Other Aims To Deliver Anti Violence Message On Oct 8
Organizers behind the Labor Day Stand Against Hate Rally are furthering their message that Love is louder than hate.
“We want to remind the world that all are welcome and have the right to be safe in our America,” a written statement announcing an Oct 8 March For Each Other event.
The peaceful event’s message is a stand against all forms of hate, particularly violence, be it domestic, gender, gun, immigrant, LGBT, racial, and sexual violence, organizers said.
The day’s lineup is as follows:
5:30 p.m. Rally in Kennedy Park
6:00 p.m. Anti-Violence Speakers
Andre Mejer, Immigration Attorney
6:30 p.m. March from Kennedy Park down Cookman Ave to Boardwalk Casino, north on Boardwalk to Convention Hall, then retrace our steps back to Kennedy Park. Bring a sign, a picture, someone’s name, electric or digital candles.
7:30 p.m. Candlelight Vigil for Victims of Violence: Say Their Name
7:45 p.m. Moment of Silence and Closing Remarks from Nicolle Harris, local activist and preacher
Stand Against Hate Asbury Park is led by Nicolle Harris, a lifelong city resident, activist and minister, and Jess Alaimo, a comedian known for her organizing LGBTQ and other social justice support and awareness events. They worked with a committee of close to 50 people, organizations and City and County leaders to bring about the Labor Day rally that drew a crowd of hundreds.
Their edict is intolerance for racism, xenophobia, antisemitism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and ableism in advancement of equality and freedom.
