Ballot positions to be determined Wednesday

The deadline is past and the signatures are counted, and five city residents have been approved to run for the charter study commission.

A charter study commission [CSC] would scrutinize the city’s current form of government and recommend changes if they see fit. The CSC is subject to two votes in the November general election. First, voters must decide whether they want to implement a CSC. Then, they will vote for the five members they’d like to see serve on the commission.

The field of candidates on the ballot in November will include Randy Thompson, Rita M. Marano, Michelle Maguire, Pamela Lamberton and Duanne “King” Small.

Earl Young also handed in a petition on Friday, Sept. 7, with the requisite 100 signatures. But city clerk Steve Kay found only 95 of those signatures to be valid, meaning Young’s name will not appear on the ballot.

On Wednesday, Kay will orchestrate a drawing among the candidates to determine ballot placement.

The CSC was implemented via ordinance in May.
