Hands Across the Boards Sunday In Asbury Park
A 5-Year Commemoration of Superstorm Sandy
The New Jersey League of Conservation Voters Education Fund will host a Superstorm Sandy commemoration 2 p.m. Sunday inside Paramount Theatre, located at 1300 Ocean Ave.
“Five years after Superstorm Sandy battered our coast with such force it left parts of the Jersey Shore unrecognizable and caused disastrous flooding in North Jersey, [we are] joining with more than a dozen environmental partners to commemorate the lives and properties lost, and to demand immediate action on climate change,” representatives from the Conservation said in a written statement.
The nonpartisan nonprofit works to protect natural resources through awareness and by increasing the environmental community’s efficacy, according to a statement on their website.
Led by Executive Director Ed Potosnak, their work includes providing technical assistance, research, education, and advocacy for policy-making safeguards that protect water, air, and open space across the state.
The rally will include shared stories of heartbreak, recovery and resilience, addresses from local officials who were at Sandy Ground Zero, and the laying out steps needed to address climate change and save lives, the news statement said.
“We will then link hands to cover the length of across the boardwalk, beginning at Convention Hall,” organizers said.
The 2 p.m. Sunday event has been moved to the Paramount Theatre, located at 1300 Ocean Avenue.
