Two Arrested In Weds Night Gas Station Armed Robbery
Employee Was Not Injured In Struggle With Knife Wielding Suspect
Two suspects were arrested following a Wednesday night armed robbery at the Shell Gas Station on Asbury Avenue, Ocean Township Police Department announced in a written news statement.
Troy White, 20, of Asbury Park, was charged with with robbery, possession of weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Tywan Thomas, 19, of Asbury Park, was charged with conspiracy to commit a robbery.
Police responded near 9:02 p.m. Wednesday in response to the armed robbery call, officials said. When police arrived they learned that a black male confronted an employee, brandished a knife and a physical struggle ensued. After a brief struggle the accused fled the area.
An investigation, assisted by Monmouth County Sheriff’s Officer Joseph Aretino along with K-9 Ari, revealed the two men fled the area to a nearby Green Grove Road home in Neptune.
The employee was not injured and did not require any medical attention.
White and Thomas were remanded to Monmouth County Jail, pending an initial court appearance.
Ocean Township Police Officers Arthur Barnek, Chris Stenger, Detectives Mike Melody, Jesse Orbach, Greg Martone, and Dt Sgt. Patrick Martin investigated.
