Asbury Park Man Sentenced to 25 Years For Drug Possession With Intent To Distribute
Prosecutor: Officials seized over 1500 bags of heroin in 2013 & 2014 motor vehicle stops
An Asbury Park man was sentenced to a total of 25 years for involvement in two heroin distribution cases, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced Monday afternoon.
Gregory Jean Baptiste, 28, must serve 12 years of the sentence, handed down by Superior Court Judge Thomas F. Scully, before being eligible for parole, officials said.
The charges, which included heroin possession, with intent to distribute within a school zone and near public housing complex, stem from June 29, 2013 arrest by Asbury Park Police and an Oct. 21, 2014 arrest by Lake Como Police.
In the first incident, Baptiste was found in possession 430 bags of heroin following a motor vehicle stop. While out on bail, Baptiste, a passenger during a motor vehicle stop, was found to be in possession of 1098 bags of heroin, officials said. He pleaded guilty to both indictments.
“Based on Baptiste’s prior record, Judge Scully granted the State’s motion for an extended term of imprisonment and ordered sentences for each indictment to run consecutively,” officials said.
The cases were prosecuted by Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutors Martha K. Nye and Merlin K. Thomas, and Baptiste was represented by Robert J. Konzelmann of Freehold.
