Three Asbury Park residents have begun work as part of Governor-elect Philip D. Murphy’s transition team. 

Murphy visited the City many times throughout his campaign, holding a campaign rally that featured a mini concert by Jon Bon Jovi at the House of Independents on Cookman Avenue, and celebrated his victory at the Grand Arcade in Convention Hall on the Asbury Park Boardwalk.

Among the over 500 tapped to take on policy analysis and recommendation for a host of state issues and initiatives is former Army Cpt. Sue Fulton [at right], Executive Director of Women in the Service Change Initiative.

Fulton, who is serving on the Military and Veteran Affairs Committee, was among the first class of women admitted to West Point. She served as a company commander in Germany.

Her civilian work for LGBTQ military recognition led to the repeal of the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy, and she worked closely with the Pentagon on its implementation. Through an appointment by President Barack Obama, Fulton became the first openly gay person to sit on the West Point Board of Visitors and was part of a three-person panel at the first-ever LGBT pride event held at the Pentagon.

Also on the list are Sustainable Jersey’s Development Director Joe Grillo, and Surfrider Foundation’s Andrew Chambarry, who are serving on the 35-member Environment and Energy Committee.
