Governor-elect Phil Murphy will nominate Asbury Park Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lamont Repollet (above) to be his Commissioner of Education, according to a statement issued by Senator Vin Gopal, (D-Monmouth).

The following is Gopal’s statement:

“I am elated at the news of Monmouth County’s own Dr. Lamont Repollet being nominated to be New Jersey’s next Commissioner of Education by Governor-Elect Murphy. Dr. Repollet brings results, plain and simple. He has done just that in Asbury Park and I am confident he will do it again as our Education Commissioner.

“Under the leadership of Dr. Repollet, Asbury Park has seen dramatic increases in its high school graduation rate without increases to per pupil spending. In the midst of New Jersey’s current budget crunch, we need a leader who can deliver for our students and parents without suffocating taxpayers. New Jersey’s public school system is consistently ranked in the top five best in the nation and I have every bit of confidence that Dr. Repollet will maintain and improve that legacy. I offer my full support of Dr. Repollet and I look forward to his leadership.”

This is a breaking story.
