Man indicted in November 2011 murder
Thaddeus J. Reevey, 20, charged with Asbury man's death
A Monmouth County Grand Jury handed up an indictment on Sept. 17 charging Thaddeus T. Reevey with murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, according to a news release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
The charges are related to the Nov. 8, 2011, shooting death of 22-year-old Eric Freeman, of Asbury Park. Reevey, 20, is a resident of Neptune, according the release.
If convicted on the murder charge, Reevey faces a minimum sentence of 30 years in state prison, during which time he would be ineligible for parole, according to the release. The maximum sentence is life imprisonment.
If convicted of possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, Reevey faces a maximum of 10 years in New Jersey State Prison, according to the release.
The following is an excerpt from the release:
“At approximately 6:18 p.m. on Nov. 8, 2011, oficers from the Asbury Park Police Department responded to the area of Adams Street and Sylvan Way within the Asbury Park Village housing complex after receiving ‘911’ telephone calls regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, police located Eric Freeman, who had sustained gunshot wounds. Mr. Freeman was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where, despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at 6:58 p.m.
“A joint investigation involving the Asbury Park Police Department and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office was immediately launched … As a result of the investigation, police identified and ultimately charged Reevey with murder for shooting and killing Mr. Freeman.
“Reevey’s bail was set at $1.5 million, cash only, by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Thomas F. Scully. Reevey was lodged at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution thereafter and remains in custody in lieu of bail.”
