Letter: Plea to iStar

Kaplow: More Communication On Waterfront Redevelopment Projects

Editor, Asbury Park Sun,

I am responding to the looming construction crane being lit up at night as a sign of iStar’s progress on the waterfront.

I do think it’s a great idea for iStar to start communicating much better with the citizens of the town about what progress is being made.

There is a dearth of information about what many people care about, as opposed to murals being painted on buildings that are falling into disrepair.

I happen to know about some good things that iStar is doing, but no one else does, as evidenced by some of the stories on social media and comments from residents about what’s happening in our own town.

I would like to suggest something: Would iStar consider funding a quarterly news-magazine style program to keep everybody up-to- date?

I would nominate APTV as the source to receive an agreed-to budget, and then produce the program.

We are not talking huge money numbers here, and the ability to keep news and information current, from a source that is the natural producer of such content, would seem to be in line with keeping everything “local” and promoting the town with its own resources.

I am not advocating for myself or my company – if such an agreement can be worked out, I would not participate, just to keep the record straight. And I do NOT speak for APTV in any way, they are a great group but I am not associated with them.
