Mayor’s Wellness Committee Continues Health Initiative
Free Movement & Meditation Class Offered At Boys & Girls Club
The Mayor’s Wellness Committee will offer a free Movement and Meditation class 11 a.m. Jan 27 at the Boys and Girls Club of Monmouth County location on Monroe Avenue.
The hour long tutorial will be taught by a certified instructor, with a stretch and calisthenics session led by Councilman Jesse ‘Coach’ Kendle, who also heads the City’s Recreation Committee.
All ages and levels of experience are welcomed, organizers said. The instruction will be tailored to each participants comfort level. Participants should bring towel and drinking water.
The Committee launched over the summer with a mission to promote and champion a healthy and active lifestyle for all those who live, work, and play in Asbury Park. To that end, they have administered information booths at community events, hosted free yoga sessions in the park and a free CPR training course.
The Committee is a part of the New Jersey Health Care Quality Initiative and works in conjunctions with the Coalition for a Healthier Asbury Park, the Complete Streets Coalition, and other groups.
It’s members include Mayor John Moor, Kendle, Transportation Manager Mike Manzella, Lisa Lee of EZ Ride/Alliance for a Healthier Asbury Park, Lena Siddiqi of the American Heart Association, Allison Cerco of Hackensack Meridian Health, Doug Eagles, director of the Boys & Girls Club, Vishal Sood of Home Drug Store on Main Street, and resident Wendi Glassman.
The Committee meets at 1 p.m. on the second Friday of each month in the City Manager’s Conference Room at City Hall, 1 Municipal Plaza. Anyone with an idea or initiative can email wellness@cityofasburypark.com.
The Movement and Mediation course will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Jan. 27 at the Boys and Girls Club, located at 1201 Monroe Avenue. RSVP by Jan 25 by calling 732-502-5727 or emailing wellness@cityofasburypark.com.
