Asbury Park Music & Film Festival To Honor Industry Legends
Doors Documentary Makes World Premiere & Special Event Grateful Dead Film Screening
The Asbury Park Music & Film Festival [APMFF] announced Thursday the screening of music documentaries that honor some of the music industry’s most iconic legends.
Founded with a mission to provide music education, instruments and social connections for the underserved youth in Asbury Park, funds raised are earmarked for music programs like those done in partnership with Hope Academy Charter School, its Hip Hop Institute at the Boys and Girls Club of Monmouth County, and its Asbury Park Summer Recreation Music Camp. Over time, the APMFF plans include spreading its reach throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties.
At the top of the list will be the world premiere of Break On Thru: A Celebration of Ray Manzarek and The Doors, being screened 12:45 p.m. April 28 at the House of Independents on Cookman Avenue. The film spotlights John Densmore and Robby Krieger, the two surviving members of The Doors, 2016 concert in Los Angeles held to celebrate what would have been Manzarek’s 70th birthday.
And, Long Strange Trip, the 2017 Grateful Dead documentary, being screened at 2:15 p.m. April 29 at the House of Independents, features an intimate panel discussion and Q&A with producers Eric Eisner and Justin Kreutzmann. The near-4 hour-long Amazon Prime Video documentary explores the deep history of the legendary band.
Tickets for both films, along with a variety of APMFF VIP and student packages, are available fia www.apmff.org.
