The Asbury Park Public Library is seeking input from the community by way of a 10 question survey, according to a social media post from Board of Trustees member Kerri Martin.

The questionnaire asks the public to weigh in on various aspects of services and programs, as well as how the library can contribute to Asbury Park’s overall quality of life?

“We have embarked on creating a strategic plan for the library and have put together a short survey to gather input from our community,” Martin said in the post.

Martin said the trustees are also looking to form a Friends of the Asbury Park Library group.

“The idea is that a separate non-profit will be formed with the mission of helping support library programs, events and fundraising,” she said.

Established in November 1878, the Asbury Park Public Library building was constructed in 1881 by an unknown New York City architect, according to the library website. City founder James Bradley donated land and in 1897, through a referendum vote, the free municipal public library was formed.

Today, the Asbury Park Public Library has over 100,000 titles in its collection. It mission, according to a written statement, is to ‘provide quality, cost-effective services, and lifelong learning opportunities, through books and a variety of other formats, to meet the informational, educational, cultural and recreational needs and interests of its diverse population.’

The library is currently offering an AARP sponsored free tax prep, running 9 a.m. to 11:30 on Fridays and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays, through April 14. Participants should bring last year’s tax return, a social security card, photo ID, checkbook for direct deposit, and any pertinent income, deduction and health insurance documents. The service is on a walk-in only basis.

The Asbury Park Library is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. Follow their programming via Facebook and Instagram.
