Neptune Man Charged W/ Sunday Stabbing At Railroad Plaza
Suspect identified on video of stabbing a 55-yr-old man in the buttocks denies allegation
Asbury Park Police Department has charged a 26-year-old man with the Sunday afternoon stabbing incident in Railroad Plaza, Deputy Chief David Kelso announced in a news statement.
Eddie Laboy of Neptune has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose [a knife] and unlawful possession of a weapon, Department Spokesman Sgt. Michael Casey said.
Police were called near 4:12 p.m. to the shopping plaza located along the 100 block of Memorial Drive, Casey said.
The victim, a 55-year-old man from Brick Township, was seated on the transportation platform and observed bleeding from the back of his leg, Casey said.
“The victim sustained a single stab wound underneath his left buttocks and stated he was stabbed by a well-dressed Hispanic male, who asked him for money,” Casey said. “The victim was transported to an area hospital for medical attention.”
Det Gabriel Carrasquillo was able to locate the assault on video and a photo of the actor was dispatched to patrol. Casey said Ptl Anthony Fiorentino detained Laboy, who was not arrested at the time.
On Tuesday, Carrasquillo interviewed Laboy at police headquarters, located at 1 Municipal Plaza. Although he denied involvement, Laboy admitted to being at the plaza and ‘having a conversation with an older white male,’ Casey said.
Laboy was remanded to Monmouth County Jail, pending a court appearance.
