PD seeks help identifying driver in vehicle pursuit incident
Passengers charged with drug possession, driver remains at large
An unidentified driver [shown in photos] who was pulled over for a motor vehicle violation Wednesday afternoon, remains at large after fleeing the scene with three passengers in tow, Deal Police Department announced in a written statement.
The passengers – Bruce Barba, 61, Darnell Roberts, 27, and Jamal Marcus, 26, all of Baltimore, were charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and Roberts was charged with obstruction, officials said.
Sgt. Sgt Brian Egan was on routine patrol near 4:48 p.m. Wednesday when he observed the motor vehicle violation along Grassmere Avenue in Interlaken. The vehicle was stopped in the area of Grassmere Avenue and Westra Street, officials said.
But while speaking with the driver in an attempt to identify him, the black male fled the stop and a brief vehicle pursuit began, officials said. The vehicle came to a stop on Bendermere Avenue in the area of Westra Street after striking a curb and becoming disabled.
And although two of the occupants fled on foot and one was apprehended a short time later, all three passengers were eventually identified, charged and released on criminal summonses, pending a court date.
Lt Matt Sharin, Sgt Brian Egan, Ptl Joe Ammaturo, and Ptl Jeff Kless assisted in the investigation. Aid also came from Ocean Township, Allenhurst and Howell Police departments, officials said.
