NENAproductions Opens 2018 Season With A New Brain
Show Runs 7:30 pm March 1 to 3 At Starving Artist On Olin Street
NENAproductions Theater Project returns next week with A New Brain, William Finn’s autobiographical musical that addresses his battle with arteriovenous malformation and the healing power of art. Finn wrote the music and lyrics and co wrote the book with Tony-winning playwright James Lapine.
The New York Times called the production ‘one long, harmonious thank-you note for second chances in life.’
The Ocean Grove resident theater company opens it’s 2018 season with a limited run of the off broadway hit, kicking off 7:30 p.m. March 1.
“In the throes of writer’s block for an irritating children’s TV show, composer Gordon Schwinn experiences a sudden life-threatening brain disorder which engulfs him and those he loves in a tumultuous, surreal and very funny ordeal,” the company’s Artistic Director Nick Montesano said. “Despite its content, A New Brain is delightful musical comedy with a catchy score and hope filled message.”
Montesano directs and choreographs the show, with musical direction by Jeff Brown. Ray Dademo, a NENA veteran, portrays Gordon, the character inspired by Finn’s experience. Also returning to the NENA stage are Sean Dickinson, Amanda Munice, Emily Monus, Jennifer Nelson, Matthew Yee, Frank Falisi, Tara Beams; with TJ Bodnar and Brett Colby making their NENA debut. The creative team includes Stage Manager Allison Walter and Technical Director Arnold Teixeira.
The show runs 7:30 p.m. March 1 to 3 only at The Starving Artist at Days Restaurant, located at 47 Olin Street. Seating is limited and tickets are available by calling 732-988-1007. For more information visit www.nenaproductions.org.
