Report: Ten year old boy dead, mother injured in Asbury shooting
Incident happened on Ridge Avenue at approx 11 p.m. Wednesday
A 10-year old child was fatally shot and and his 39-year old mother injured in a late Wednesday night shooting along the 400 block of Ridge Avenue, according to reports from News 12 New Jersey and CBS News.
Police are searching for two suspects said to have fled the scene on foot.
The gunfire is said to have erupted near 10:40 pm on Ridge Avenue near Summerfield Avenue.
The mother, who was rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, is said to survive.
The boy was a student at Bradley Elementary School on Third Avenue in Asbury Park, according to reports.
“Any act of violence is always disheartening, particularly when it happens in our community,” said Acting Superintendent Sancha Gray. “Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the 10-year-old boy who was shot and subsequently died.”
Gray declined any further comment.
“To ensure that correct information is disseminated, we will refrain from commenting at this time as this is an ongoing police investigation,” Gray said. “Our top priority is always the safety and well-being of our students and staff.”
Mayor John Moor could not be reached by this publication for comment.
