Grammy Winners To Perform At Mary’s Place Benefit
Sarah McLachlan & Patty Griffin Will Headline July 28 Show At The Paramount
Mary’s Place by the Sea has announced Grammy winners Sarah McLachlan and Patty Griffin will headline a benefit concert July 28 at the historic Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park.
Located on Main Avenue in Ocean Grove, Mary’s Place by the Sea is a 10-bedroom respite and support agency that serves women diagnosed with cancer from across the nation. Founded in 2009, the nonprofit has served over 8,000 at no cost through an array of holistic offerings and integrative services that complement their medical treatment.
“We are thrilled to have these two incredibly talented, Grammy Award winning artists dedicate their time and musical talents to benefit women with cancer,” Co Founder Michele Gannon said. This concert represents exactly what Mary’s Place by the Sea is all about: women helping women in their time of profound need.”
McLachlan [shown if feature photo], a celebrated singer-songwriter, has garnered three Grammy and 12 Juno awards, and is a Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee. She is also known for her philanthropic efforts, having has raised millions for women’s charities through events like the Lilith Fair tour. In 2002 she opened The Sarah McLachlan School of Music, which provides music instruction to at-risk and underserved children at no cost.
“It’s a wonderful place for women to go when they’re healing from cancer,” McLachlan said of Mary’s Place.
Griffin [at right], also a singer-songwriter who was named 2007 Artist of the Year by the Americana Music Association, took home her Grammy in 2011 for Downtown Church. Her catalog of nine studio albums and two live collections have been praised by everyone from NPR to the New York Times. In 2016, her Use Your Voice tour was held in conjunction with the League of Women Voters and in 2017, the Lampedusa Tour supported refugee relief efforts and education.
An Intimate Evening of Music with Sarah McLachlan and Patty Griffin will be held 7 p.m. July 28. Tickets will go on sale noon Friday via Ticketmaster.com and through the Stone Pony box office, located at 913 Ocean Avenue.
