Asbury Park Man, 18, Indicted For Feb Shots Fired Incident
Young faces 25 years for firing off rounds near Prospect & Mattison avenues
A Monmouth County grand jury has returned an indictment against an 18-year-old Asbury Park man charged in connection with gunshots being fired in the area of Prospect and Mattison avenues back in February, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced Wednesday via a written news statement.
Dyquan P. Young, 18, is charged with the second degree crimes of possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a firearm, and the third degree hindering the apprehension of another.
Officials said they were called to the southwest neighborhood near 2:15 p.m. Feb. 6 for reports of multiple gunshots being fired along the 100 block of Prospect Avenue. And while no injuries were reported and no victim(s) were found, they launched a joint investigation with the Asbury Park Police Department after collecting evidence at the scene.
That investigation found that a group of people were gathered in the area when the gunfire occurred and that Young was the person responsible for the gunfire.
Young is being held at Monmouth County Jail in Freehold, pending a trial before Monmouth County Superior Court Judge David Bauman.
If convicted, Young faces five to ten years for each of the second degree charges and three to five years for the third degree charge.
The case is assigned to Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Bogner and Young is represented by Carlos Diaz-Cobo of New Brunswick.
