Ridge Ave. fire allegedly caused by unattended cooking
Inhabitants assisted by Red Cross
A fire that broke out after midnight in the 400 block of Ridge Avenue was caused by unattended cooking, public information officer Garrett Giberson said today.
The fire department received a call at 12:35 a.m., Giberson said. Firefighters found heavy smoke and fire conditions when they arrived at the scene. Three residents — a 34-year-old woman and two males, ages 14 and six — were displaced. The Red Cross responded to assist with placement for the residents, Giberson said.
The single-family, one-story structure sustained heavy damage throughout and is uninhabitable at this time, Giberson said. The fire is being considered accidental.
The blaze was declared under control around 1:20 a.m. this morning and firefighters were on the scene until 2:30 a.m., Giberson said. No firefighters or inhabitants of the house sustained injuries.
