The Ocean Township Police Department has released news statements that outline arrests for drug possession and lewdness as well as a Saturday paper shredding program and bicycle auction in Joe Palaia Park.
First up is a Tuesday drug possession arrest by Ptl. Dean Schoch after conducting a motor vehicle violation stop near 4:10 a.m. along Asbury Avenue.
Anthony M. Jeffries, 52, of Plainfield is charged with possession of methamphetamine, prescription legend drugs, hypodermic syringes and drug paraphernalia. In addition to the drug charges there were numerous warrants for his arrest, officials said. Jeffries was unable to produce a license and was found to be a suspended driver.
He was remanded to Monmouth County Jail, pending an initial court appearance.
At 12:24 p.m. that same day, police responded to a report of a male shoplifter who fled the Sears Department Store at Seaview Square Shopping Plaza.
Carl M. Driver Jr., 27, of Neptune Township was charged with shoplifting, obstruction and resisting arrest.
Officials said a description was provided and while officers were unable to initially locate Driver, he was spotted riding a bicycle in Asbury Park. Although he fled into a backyard and ultimately eluded police on foot, property belonging to the department store was recovered.
In the end he was apprehended by the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Department and remitted to Monmouth County Jail, pending an initial court appearance.
At 7:32 p.m. Saturday, the department responded to a report of a male engaged in a lewd act inside his vehicle outside of Jersey Strong at Seaview Square Shopping Plaza.
Sriniram Narasimhan, 20, of Tinton Falls was charged with lewdness.
Officials said a Jersey Strong patron was sitting inside of her vehicle waiting to enter the gym when she observed a male staring at her. After a few minutes she decided to move to another parking spot and observed that the accused later identified as Narasimhan had his genitals exposed and was engaged in a lewd act.
Narasimhan was released on a criminal summons, pending an initial court appearance. Ptl. Alicea Angelo, Detectives Michael Legg and Jesse Orbach investigated.
The department also issued two community public service events occurring on Saturday morning.
A bicycle auction will be held at Joe Palaia Park [behind the white building], located at 240 Whalepond Rd. Viewing will run from 8:30 to 9 a.m., with the auction being held from 9 a.m. to noon.
